How to Repair a Silicone Spatula

Silicone spatulas help scrape and mix food and are especially effective because food doesn't stick to the silicone as well as it would stick to wood or metal surfaces. Silicone spatulas are normally attached to a long metal or wooden handle. Sometimes, the silicone top can detach from the handle. Fix this to resume using the spatula. Choose glue that is safe to use on items for food production.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean both the handle and the silicone head with soapy water. Rinse them and let them dry completely. If the handle is wood, you might have to let it sit overnight to dry completely.

    • 2

Fill the crevice where the handle fits into the spatula head with the appropriate glue. Use glue intended to bond plastics together if your handle is plastic. Use glue to bond plastic to wood or plastic to metal if your handle is wood or metal.

    • 3

Press the handle into the spatula head and hold it for at least 1 minute.

    • 4

Immediately soak a clean cloth in acetone. Rub the cloth over the spatula head to remove all of the glue that has seeped out.

    • 5

Tape the spatula head tight onto the handle. This will help strengthen the bond.

    • 6

Wipe up any drips with the acetone-soaked cloth.

    • 7

Remove the tape after the glue has fully cured. This could take anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on the type of glue you've been using. This is important as you don't want the glue to contaminate your food.

Wash the spatula with soap and water before using it.
