How to Care for Tiger Claw Jewelry

While tiger claw jewelry might sound like just a name to some people, it refers to jewelry made from the curved claws of actual tigers. Such jewelry often contains gold tips or mounts set along the claws and sometimes has precious stones as well. This type of jewelry was primarily made in India or China, though sometimes in England as well during Victorian times. If you're in possession of authentic tiger claw jewelry, you most likely have a real antique on your hands that requires proper care.

Instructions

    • 1

Combine 1 tsp. of mild, organic soap in a small basin filled with 2 cups warm water. Dip a cotton swab in the mixture and wipe down the gold parts of your tiger claw jewelry. The gold can acquire a tarnish from environmental grime and body oils; washing this off is important. Make sure none of the cleaning detergent gets on the tiger claws.

    • 2

Rinse out the basin and fill it with clean water. Dip another cotton swab in the mixture, and wipe down the gold, rinsing it clean. Again, make sure none of the water touches the claws.

    • 3

Buff the gold parts of the jewelry dry with a soft cloth. Wrap the jewelry in a soft cotton cloth.

    • 4

Store it in the box it came in or your jewelry box. Do not wrap it in plastic, as the tiger claws are organic materials and need to breathe. Keep this jewelry away from sunlight.
