How to Condition a Non-Stick Pan

Nonstick pans are ideal for frying foods without worry of the food sticking to the surface; however, over time, the nonstick coating on the pan may become worn and food may begin to stick to the surface. Conditioning the pan will restore the nonstick surface of the pan. Use the right technique for conditioning your nonstick pans to ensure you don't damage the pans in the process.

  • Dish soap
  • Sponge
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil

      Wash the pan with warm, soapy water and a sponge to remove all food and buildup from the surface. Rinse and dry the pan thoroughly.

      Put the pan on the stovetop over low heat. Let it heat up for about 30 to 40 seconds, then remove it from the heat.

      Put 1 tbsp. of vegetable oil into the pan. Hold the pan by the handle and swirl it around to coat the surface.

      Rub a paper towel over the entire inside surface of the pan to coat it with the oil. Use a clean paper towel to lightly rub over the inside of the pan to remove the excess oil.
