Mothballs have an array of uses -- protecting clothing, removing snakes from the yard and keeping bugs at bay. Unfortunately, unless you wear gloves when using mothballs, the overpowering smell will remain on your hands for a long time. Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hands with a lemon-scented dish detergent. The lemon scent combined with the tough-on-grease agents will help lift the smell from your hands. Dry your hands well and sprinkle with baby powder. Rub the powder into your skin and wait a few minutes. The smell will be gone.

    • 2

Rub paste toothpaste, not gel toothpaste, on your hands. Use a dime-size amount and work the paste through your fingers and around your palms. Rinse well. The smell will be gone.

    • 3

Mix water and baking soda until you have a toothpaste-like consistency. Rub and scrub the paste mixture onto your hands and leave it on for up to three minutes. Rinse off.

    • 4

Fill a bowl with tomato juice and soak your hands for five minutes. The tomato juice will neutralize the smell. Wash the tomato juice off.

    • 5

Soak your hands in lemon juice for three minutes to remove the smell, then wash your hands.

Peel an orange and rub the rinds on your hands to diffuse the mothball smell. When finished, wash your hands and drop the rinds down the garbage disposal to eliminate any nasty sink odors.
