How to Flatten Wrinkled Paper

A new piece of paper is smooth, crisp, easy to read and attractive to display. Without proper handling, it can become crumpled, creased and wrinkled, which decreases its usefulness. You cannot shake or smooth these wrinkles out, but you can remove them using heavy books, steam and an iron to restore the paper's crisp, smooth texture.

Instructions

  1. Spray Bottle Method

    • 1

Place the paper on a flat, hard surface and smooth it out with your hands.

    • 2

Fill a spray bottle with water. Turn the nozzle to its widest setting to achieve a fine spray.

    • 3

Lightly mist the paper. Be careful that you don't soak it, or the ink may run.

    • 4

Place the paper between two heavy books until it is dry.

    Steam Method

    • 5

Set the paper someplace in the bathroom where it will not get wet. Turn on the hot water in the shower and let the room fill up with steam.

    • 6

Allow the paper to sit in the steamy room for several minutes.

    • 7

Remove the paper from the bathroom and place it between two books until is completely dry.

    Ironing Method

    • 8

Place the paper on an ironing board, mat or hard surface. Cover it with a thin cloth.

    • 9

Heat the iron on its lowest setting.

    • 10

Iron the paper through the cloth until it is wrinkle-free. Avoid any areas where there is tape or plastic. The iron can melt these into the paper.
