How to Remove Burnt Food From the Bottom of a Glass Pan

Removing burnt food on a glass pan, such as a casserole dish, presents a special challenge. Steel wool can scratch the glass, while scrubbing with a nylon brush may accomplish little more than a sore elbow. Rather than wearing yourself out and getting frustrated scrubbing the glass pan, soak it in a weak acid to accelerate the clean up.

Things You'll Need

  • Distilled vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Scrubber sponge

Instructions

    • 1

Set the glass pan on a heat-safe surface to cool completely. Do not place a hot glass pan in a sink, where sudden exposure to cold water could shatter the glass.

    • 2

Pour distilled vinegar into the pan until the burned-on food is covered. Let it soak overnight. Vinegar is a weak acid that gradually dissolves the crusty food, making it easier to remove.

    • 3

Add baking soda to the vinegar after an overnight soak, until the mixture begins to bubble. Wait for the chemical reaction to stop.

    • 4

Remove the stuck-on food with a scrubber sponge under cold, running water. Repeat the vinegar soak if necessary until the food is gone.
