How to Fix a Nonstick Pan That's Peeling

Non-stick pans have a coating on the cooking surface that prevents food residue from sticking to the cookware. The coating may begin peeling or cracking through improper use which leads to a build-up of food residue on the bottom of the pan. Removing this residue will correct most peeling issues, and proper use of the pan from then on should prevent them from returning.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 1 cup baking soda and 1 cup water into a bowl. Stir with a spoon until the mixture is incorporated and has created a paste. Scoop 1/3 of the mixture into the pan.

    • 2

Scrub the paste into the pan surface with a vegetable scrubber in gentle, circular motions. This will remove any cooking residue that is causing the peeling.

    • 3

Rinse the pan in cool water. Scoop another 1/3 of the paste into the pan and scrub it. Repeat again until the paste stops turning brown, which indicates that the residue is all gone.

    • 4

Rinse the pan in cold water. Dry it with a dish towel.
