How to Fix a Broken Ceramic Coffee Cup

It is quite normal to get in the habit of using a favorite coffee cup or mug; after repeated use, your cup may become chipped or broken. If your ceramic cup breaks, you may not have to run out and buy a new cup if you can repair it at home. Although ceramic is generally a sturdy material, it is prone to chips and even breakage over time. You can repair your ceramic cup on your own in less than 20 minutes instead of spending the money to replace the cup.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather all the broken pieces of coffee cup.

    • 2

Place the round bottom of the cup into the sand and be sure the part that needs to be repaired is pointing up. Sitting the cup in the sand will help secure the cup while you work.

    • 3

Brush all ceramic dust or debris from around the broken edges on the cup.

    • 4

Squeeze out a small amount of epoxy and mix with a small amount of hardener. Each portion should be around the size of a dime.

    • 5

Take your toothpick and apply the mixture of epoxy and hardener around the edges of the broken part of the cup.

    • 6

Press the broken piece back in place and hold for 60 seconds. You need to be sure the glue is set before you let go.

    • 7

Remove the cup from the sand after the epoxy has set completely. You can then wash the cup as you normally would.
