How to Make a Crib Skirt From a Shower Curtain

A shower curtain is a great piece of fabric to modify for a crib skirt due to its size, thinness of material and wide available patterns. With a little ingenuity, you can quickly chop up a shower curtain to a suitable size for your baby's crib. The longest part of the process will be taking measurements to ensure the skirt fits the crib.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the mattress off your baby's crib and place it off to the side.

    • 2

Measure the length of the mattress support and then measure the width of the mattress support with a tape measure.

    • 3

Measure the distance between the floor and the top of the mattress support with the tape measure. Subtract 1-inch from the measurement. This will keep the skirt from touching the floor.

    • 4

Double the final measurement you obtained in Step 3 and then add that measurement to the length and width of the measurement obtained in Step 2.

    • 5

Transfer the measurement to the shower curtain and then cut out the skirt with a pair of sharp fabric scissors.

    • 6

Lay the skirt out on the floor and then place the crib mattress on top of the skirt so it rests in a centered position. Cut a straight line from the corners of the skirt to the corners of the mattress with your scissors. These cuts allow the skirt to slip around the legs of the crib and prevents the skirt from bunching up.

Place the skirt over the mattress support in the crib and allow the ends of the skirt to flow over the support, around the legs and towards the ground. Pull the skirt so equal lengths flow over each end of the support. If cut correctly, you should have an approximate 1-inch gap between each end of the skirt and the floor.

Place the mattress back onto the mattress support. The mattress will hold the skirt in place.
