How to Decorate a Foyer Window Ledge

A foyer is a location near the front or rear entry point of your home. It is a wide open area that allows people to acclimate to the house as they enter it. Given its location, it is a high-traffic area. Therefore, if you have a window in your foyer, you can use the window ledge as a focal point. Decorating a window is ultimately up to your styling tastes. However, you can use simple household items to help turn a boring ledge into a focal point.

Instructions

Place a round or square doily at each end of the window ledge. Use a neutral color such as white or use a color that complements the color of the paint on the foyer's walls. If you choose, you can opt for a lace and sheer cloth instead of a doily. Do not allow each doily or cloth to exceed 25 percent of the window ledge length.

Place a 5-by-7-inch or 8-by-10-inch picture frame filled with family photos on each of the doilies. Position the photos at an angle where you can easily see the pictures as you enter the doorway. Use a frame size that fits naturally on the ledge. Do not use a frame too larger to fully fit on the ledge. Routinely change the pictures with seasonal photos. For example, use pictures taken at the beach or park during the summer and then change to pictures taken in a pumpkin patch in the fall. This keeps visitors interested.

Position a centerpiece flower vase between the pictures to add a contrasting color to the window area. You can use fresh seasonal flowers if you do not mind the added work of watering or you can use a high-quality silk flower. Regardless, change them out frequently when they start to wilt or when the seasons change. Select a season-appropriate flower.
