How to Compile a Grocery List

Going to the store without a grocery list can be unproductive and result in impulse purchases. Odds are you'll come back with a bunch of food that you were craving while you were in the store, and forget the basics like juice and eggs. If you want to be a productive shopper, create a grocery list. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Grab a piece of paper and take 10 minutes to plan out your grocery trip.

Instructions

    • 1

Spend a few minutes coming up with meal ideas.for the week.

    • 2

Check to see what ingredients you have in your refrigerator and pantry that can be used in your meals. Also check to see if you are running low on the necessities like milk, eggs, butter and bread.

    • 3

Write down everything that you need to purchase for your meals and any other household items that you may be out of.

    • 4

Organize your list so that you won't be running back and forth through the store. If you know that the milk is near the butter, group these things together so you can grab them when you're on that isle.

    • 5

Organize your groups by location in the store. If you know the produce is at the front of the store, list your produce items first.

    • 6

Keep a list of things you notice you need throughout the week. You may only notice that you're out of something when you're reaching for it in the fridge. Write these things down when you notice them so that you can add them to your list on grocery day.
