Wash the sheets prior to putting them onto the bed, even if they are new. This softens them and make them easier to work with. Iron them if you put them onto the bed after storing them.
Pull the fitted sheet over the mattress, tucking the corners well underneath the mattress. Work your way around the bed, tucking the loose edges underneath the edges of the mattress. Smooth out any wrinkles in the sheet on the top and sides of the mattress.
Lay the flat sheet over the mattress, making sure the edges are equal lengths on both sides of the bed. Pull the top edge of the flat sheet up to the top of the bed, Pull gently from the foot of the bed to straighten out any wrinkles.
Lay a blanket, if you are using one, over the flat sheet in the same manner as Step 3.
Lift up the bottom of the mattress and tuck the bottom of the sheet and blanket flat underneath the mattress, pulling it so that there are no wrinkles along the side of the mattress.
Lift the corner of the mattress at the foot of the bed and tuck a small portion of the sheet and blanket hanging down the side underneath the corner to create a sharp crease at the corner. Repeat on the other side.
Fold the sheet and blanket over at the top of the bed to create a place to put the pillows. Fold it only far enough to accommodate your pillows.
Lay the pillows on top of the folded portion of the sheet and blanket to hide the fold.
Place any additional covers, such as a comforter or quilt, onto the bed, keeping the sides even and the cover flat. Fold it down from the top into thirds so it rests at the bottom of the bed, revealing the blanket beneath, but allowing for easy use if necessary.
