How to Make Newspaper Firelogs

Instructions

    • 1

Spread out a section of the newspaper on a flat surface. Open it in the middle so you get the full spread.

    • 2

Fan out the newspaper by sliding the top sheet up and away from you about 1 inch above the sheet directly under it. Do the same with each successive sheet of paper, working your way to the bottom of the section so that the papers have a layered, fanned-out appearance.

    • 3

Fold the papers vertically. Grasp the edge of the newspapers closest to you with the metal cooking tongs. Place the newspaper between the full length of the tong's arms.

    • 4

Roll the newspapers using the tongs as a handle. Getting the roll right will take some practice, but try to make it loose enough to allow the newspapers to burn without making it so loose that the log roll falls apart. Also, don't make it so tight that air can't get in between the sheets and the newspapers resist burning.

Pull out the metal tongs while holding the newspaper roll, and wrap a long wire tie around the log. Do not use a plastic tie because plastic will smell and produce possibly toxic fumes.
