How to Care for a Chinese Tea Set

Authentic Chinese tea sets are collectors' items. Tea has been a part of Chinese culture for centuries and the tea sets are used for the tea ceremony. Modern reproductions of Chinese tea sets are often hand-painted with calligraphy, flowers and birds. To keep the tea set in top condition and maintain the artwork requires special care.

Instructions

  1. Care of the Teapot

    • 1

Remove tea leaves from the teapot as soon as the tea savoring is over. The tea brews in the teapot, so after pouring it into cups, scoop out the leaves with a spoon.

    • 2

Rinse the teapot out with the hot tea itself. Swirl the tea around to clean the pot, then pour it out.

    • 3

Polish the outside of the teapot with a linen cloth. Gently rub the exterior. Do not use water or dishwashing liquid to clean the teapot.

    • 4

Allow the teapot to dry naturally.

    Care of the Teacups

    • 5

Wash the teacups in the sink with no other items there.

    • 6

Hand wash the cups with mild dishwashing liquid and warm water. Rinse them completely.

    • 7

Allow the cups to air dry.

    • 8

Store the tea set in a cool place out of direct sunlight.
