Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut a 12-inch square from a length of 12-inch by 1-inch hardwood board using a measuring tape and a saw.

    • 2

Measure and cut two rectangles of wood that are 12 inches wide and 4 inches long from a length of 12-inch by 1-inch board using a measuring tape and a saw.

    • 3

Cut a 1-inch wide rectangular notch into the middle of each smaller rectangle using a keyhole saw. The notches should stretch to the middle of the rectangles.

    • 4

Apply a line of wood glue to the insides of both notches.

    • 5

Slide the notches together, making an X.

    • 6

Clamp the two rectangles together and allow the wood glue to cure. The instructions on the wood glue tell you how long this takes.

    • 7

Lay the X down on its side and lay the square of fabric on top of it. Each point of the X should match up with a corner of the square.

    • 8

Clamp the X and the square together.

    • 9

Drive a line of nails through the top of the square though to the legs, secure the top of the stool to the legs. When you are done, there should be an X made of nails over the top of the stool. At this point, the stool is ready to be used.
