How to Make a Bed Canopy Using a Circle Shower Rod

A bed canopy adds romance and elegance to an adult's bedroom while giving a child's bedroom an airy, fairy tale feel. The drapes of fabric give the bed a feeling of privacy while giving the room more height. When constructing your bed canopy, use a circular curtain rod to make the canopy more stable and use a light gauzy fabric for the drapes.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the circle curtain rod above the bed by using screws and a drill. For an extra degree of security, predrill the holes and insert screw anchors before attaching the circle shower curtain rod to the wall.

    • 2

Measure the distance from the curtain rod to the floor.

    • 3

Measure the circumference of the curtain rod, multiply by 2 and then divide it by 4.

    • 4

Cut four rectangles of fabric that match the measurements you found in steps 2 and 3 using a pair of sharp scissors.

    • 5

Hem both long sides and one short side on each rectangle by folding the edges down twice, creating a fold that ¼ inch deep both times and sewing them flat.

    • 6

Fold the unfinished edge of one rectangle down, creating a fold that is 2 inches deep, and iron it flat.

    • 7

Slide a strip of fusible interfacing that is as long as the short edge into the fold, and iron it in. This creates a firm top edge.

    • 8

Attach curtain clip rings to the fused edge of the rectangle, spacing it so there is one every 4 inches.

    • 9

Repeat steps 6 through 8 for the other three rectangles.

    • 10

Hang the fabric rectangles from the shower curtain rod and spread the fabric around and over the bed.
