Decoupage Ideas for Wall Art

Decoupage is an assemblage art, where flat paper is layered together and then painted with glue to hold the collage together. Decoupage is a simple technique, but it can make striking decorative pieces that you can use as wall art. Make your decoupage wall art out of scraps of paper that you have lying around or from scrapbooking paper that you can purchase at the craft store.
  1. Wooden Panels

    • Cut flat wooden squares from a length of 12-inch wide board. This gives you wooden panels that are 12 inches on each side. Choose several pieces of scrapbooking paper that complement each other and the decor of the room and cut them into 12-inch wide squares. Decoupage the scrapbook paper to the boards and hang the boards up on your wall in a row. This gives your room depth and color while using very inexpensive materials.

    Tissue Paper

    • Create a stained-glass effect using tissue paper and the art of decoupage. Cut tissue paper into irregular rectangles and parallelograms and dip them into a decoupage medium. Then simply apply the tissue paper to a clean wall, flattening it or leaving it rumpled for a textured effect. Overlap other pieces of tissue paper on top of the first shape until the wall is covered. For a large project like this, simply use an equal mix of white glue and water as your decoupage medium, as it will dry clear.

    Decoupage Message

    • Decide on a message that you want to display in your home, and cut out letters from magazines that spell out the message. Decoupage the letters directly to a sanded wooden board or to a collage that you have made. Frame the decoupage message up in your home or simply hang it straight on the wall for a beautifully simple, casual look.

    Family Collage

    • Purchase a large piece of poster board and gather a large number of magazines. Give each member of the family a quick lesson in decoupage and then work for a few evenings to completely cover the poster board with decoupaged images. This family collage is an enjoyable way for families to spend time together, and it gives you a large, personal piece of wall art to hang up when you are done.
