How to Care for a Chenille Couch

Chenille is a soft fabric that is a popular choice for upholstery because it is durable and relatively easy to clean. Chenille has woven fibers that protrude from the surface of the fabric, which makes the upholstery soft but which can also get smashed down and make the fabric look worn out before its time. Keep it looking fresh through proper maintenance.

Instructions

    • 1

Vacuum your chenille couch weekly with the upholstery attachment of your vacuum. Vacuum under cushions and in crevices to remove dust and debris that has become embedded in between fibers.

    • 2

Rotate and turn couch cushions weekly so that they wear evenly. This will prolong the life of the chenille fabric.

    • 3

Blot up stains with a clean cloth as soon as you notice them. Let the rest of the stained material dry completely and scrape off the stain with a plastic spoon. Blot a dry cleaning solvent on the stain if you can still see it. Use a dry cleaning solvent designed for chenille.

    • 4

Soak a baby brush in clear water and brush it over the chenille to restore the nap.

    • 5

Treat the upholstery with a stain repellent every year.
