How to Remove Really Stuck and Stubborn Hard Stuff From a Pot

Stuck-on and stubborn foods can be hard to remove from a pot, especially those that are frequently placed in the oven for baking. Foods such as dairy products and marinated meats are the most common causes of stuck-on foods. However, there is a quick way to remove stuck-on foods from pots and pats with tools that are available in most homes.

Things You'll Need

  • Teakettle or stockpot
  • 1 tsp. dish soap
  • Rough sponge
  • Heavy oven gloves, if necessary

Instructions

      Fill a teakettle or stockpot with cold, clean water. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat on a stove.

      Place the pot in the sink. Pour the boiling water into the pot. Gently stir the water with a wooden spoon. Place the top on the pot. Allow the pot to rest in the sink until the water cools, about 30 minutes.

      Pour the water out of the pot after the water has cooled. Add approximately 1 tsp. dish soap.

      Fill the pot halfway with hot tap water. Scrub the inside of the pot with a rough sponge. Rinse the pot thoroughly. Dry the inside and outside with a clean dish cloth.

      Repeat the process beginning with the boiling water if there is still any remaining food stuck on the pot. Dry the pot again and store as desired.
