Cut three strips of fabric that are between 2 and 4 inches wide and slightly longer than you want your rug to be.
Knot the ends of the fabric strips together.
Braid the strips of fabric together and knot the end.
Repeat Steps 1 through 3 until you have several braided strips of fabric.
Sew the first braid to the second with needle and heavy-duty thread by laying the braids out flat side to side and stitching them together.
Continue adding more braids until the accent rug is as wide as you want it to be.
Cut three strips of fabric that are between 2 and 4 inches wide. Make them about 3 feet long, or as long as is easy to handle.
Sew the three strips together at one end and start braiding them. Do not tie off the end.
Coil the strip around on itself, forming a circle or an oval, and as you do so, sew the braid together. Sew loosely so that you do not cause the rug to curl.
Sew three more strips to the loose ends of the braid.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until the rug is as large as you want it to be.
Sew the three loose ends together and then sew them to the rug.
