How to Make Wool Slippers Smell Good

After a long day, the thought of changing into something a little more comfortable can sound incredibly appealing. If your wool slippers are an integral part of your end-of-the-day relaxation, an off-putting odor tends to detract from the relaxation of that experience. The combination of moisture and bacteria, often from sweat and dirt, leads to wool slippers smelling downright unpleasant. In the interest of keeping your wool slippers smelling clean, a little work now will save you a lot of hassle later.

Instructions

    • 1

Shake the shoes off over the trash or outside to help loosen any dirt that might be on or in the slippers.

    • 2

Vacuum the shoes using the brush attachment from the vacuum cleaner to eliminate any dirt that might have become stuck between the fibers.

    • 3

Mix a mild soap or wool detergent into warm water. Add no more than 2 tbsp. of soap to 1 quart of warm water.

    • 4

Dip a sponge into the soapy water and wash the slippers. Wipe them inside and out with the sponge. Wring the sponge out before using it on the slippers to avoid saturating them.

    • 5

Rinse away the soap by wiping the slippers with a damp cloth.

    • 6

Set the slippers in a cool, dry place. If the weather is accommodating, set the slippers outside, but not in direct sunlight.

    • 7

Sprinkle baking soda or table salt over the dry wool slippers and leave it for 12 to 24 hours to absorb lingering odors and moisture.
