Tricks for Keeping the Bed Skirt From Moving

A bed skirt lies on the box spring of a bed, beneath the mattress, and hangs down the sides of the bed. The role of the bed skirt is to hide the empty space under the bed frame or anything you may have stored there, creating a more attractive look for your bedroom. Bed skirts tend to move and slip out of place when you're making the bed, sleeping on it or if you accidentally step on the edge of the skirt as you walk by. There are several tricks you can rely on to keep this from happening that will help maintain your bedroom's neat, crisp look.
  1. Placement

    • Take the mattress off the bed and lean it against a wall or lay it on the floor. Putting on the bed skirt will take several minutes, so you don't want to have someone hold it while you're arranging the bed skirt. Spread the bed skirt on top of the box spring and line up the rectangle of fabric with the box spring; they should be the same size. Position the side without a skirt hanging down at the head of the bed.

    Pins

    • Buy special bed skirt pins or use long, flathead pins. Push them through the skirt into the box spring along all four edges. This will keep the bed skirt from pulling off the box spring while you change the sheets and even if you step on the skirt. Remove the pins from the bed skirt and box spring to wash the bed skirt when it gets dirty.

    Double-Sided Tape

    • Before putting down the bed skirt, line the box spring with the double-sided tape. Place the bed skirt on top of the box spring, covering the double-sided tape, and press the skirt firmly onto the tape. Replace the mattress and make the bed as usual. Carefully lift the skirt off the tape when it's time to wash it. Test the stickiness of the tape to see if it is reusable; replace it if it's lost its grip.

    Hook-and-Loop Fastener Strips

    • Peel the backing off the base side of enough hook-and-loop fastener strips to line the top edges of your box spring. Apply the strips to the box spring. Peel off the paper backing from the top half of each strip. Place the bed skirt on top, pressing it down firmly onto the sticky fastener backing. When it comes time to wash the bed skirt, simply separate the two fastener pieces and throw the bed skirt into the laundry. If you're concerned that the fasteners will come off the bed skirt in the laundry, put a few stitches through them.
