Jesus Ornament Craft

When teaching your children or students lessons about Jesus, crafts can give them a better understanding of his life. Introduce children to ornament making and provide them with a specific theme related to Jesus. Once finished, each child can keep his creation and use it to remember biblical lessons. Using these ornaments at Christmastime shows off not only their artistic quality, but their significance as well.
  1. Angel in the Cave

    • Give each child a paper plate and ask him to cut it in half. If the children are too young, cut it for them. Have them paint the bottom sides of the plate brown and the upper sides of the plate black. Glue a picture of an angel from a magazine or a piece of paper to the upper side of one of the plates, and cut an opening out of the other. When the two plates are placed together with the upper sides facing inward, the angel should be visible. Glue or tape the edges of the half-plates together, upper sides facing inward. The two halves can stand up on their own, and the child can see an angel inside the cave, declaring that Jesus has risen. Either punch a hole in the top and use yarn to hang this ornament, or let it rest carefully on a branch of your Christmas tree.

    Jesus Fish

    • Ahead of time, cut a simple 5-inch fish outline from fun foam. Also cut out letters spelling "Jesus," in felt, using a template or stencil to guide you. Make one fish and one set of letters for each child. Jumble the letters up and ask the children to pull out the letters that spell "Jesus," gluing each letter to their fish as they do so. Then have the children glue small magnets to the back of their Jesus fish so they can place the fish on their refrigerators, after the Christmas season is over. For a Christmas tree, simply set the fish on a branch, where it can lean against a hanging ornament.

    Lamb Handprint

    • Jesus is often pictured or even symbolized as a lamb. Have the children trace an outstretched hand on a piece of paper, fingers pointed up, and then have them flip the image upside down. The four fingers becomes the legs while the thumb becomes the tail. Give the children cotton balls and ask them to glue the cotton balls to the body. Have them glue googly eyes to the head for the lamb's eyes. Afterward, this ornament can be set in between Christmas-tree branches.

    Illustrated Bible Verses

    • Choose a Bible verse for each child and write it out neatly on a small piece of paper, using a dark pen or marker. Scripture was often quoted by Jesus, so you can explain the significance of the verses. Then allow the children to illustrate it. Ensure you choose a verse that relates to the child specifically, whether it's about her virtues or about the lessons she learned. Afterward, frame the Bible verse in an inexpensive small frame and allow each child to take his framed verse home. The frames should be light and of a size that could easily hang from a sturdy Christmas-tree branch.
