How to Make Curly Hair Ribbons in an Oven

Curling ribbon is a common technique used when decorating gift boxes. You can apply the same technique when making decorations for your hair, except this time you will bake the ribbon to get it to curl. When finished, you will have little curled ribbons that look like ringlets. Use ribbons that are about 1/2 inch across to get nice, tight curls. Grosgrain ribbon works well for this project, but you can experiment with other types of ribbon.

  • Grosgrain ribbon
  • Clothespins

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat the oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 2

Wrap a wooden dowel with ribbon. Make sure the ribbon doesn't overlap on the dowel and that each wrap is evenly spaced. Secure the ribbon in place using clothespins.

    • 3

Set the dowels onto a baking sheet lined with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Cool completely.

    • 4

Slide each ribbon off the dowel and cut them into 4-inch sections. Melt the ends with a lighter to keep them from unrolling.

    • 5

Layer the ribbons on top of each other so they form a starburst shape. Use a drop of hot glue between each layer.

    • 6

Glue the finished ribbons to the back of a hair clip.
