How to Make Shoes Not Scuff Floors

Scuff marks are made when rubber shoe soles are dragged on flooring. Scuffs mar the floor`s finish and are difficult to remove. Black shoe soles are most likely to leave noticeable marks. Prevent these scuff marks by walking carefully and protecting your floors from this type of wear and tear.

Take off your shoes when you enter the house. Keep a pair of soft house shoes or heavy socks nearby that you can wear inside.

    • 2

Pick up your feet when you walk with your shoes on. Don`t drag your feet or shuffle them across the floor. This is what causes shoes to leave scuff marks.

Lay throw rugs in high-traffic areas to prevent scuff marks. Use rugs that are appropriate for the type of flooring you have. For example, wood floors can be damaged by rubber-backed rugs, because the rubber can trap moisture against the wood. If you have wood flooring, choose rugs that are designed for hardwood floors.

Apply a protective coating to the floor that resists scuff marks. Waxes and polishes protect the floor from all kinds of wear and tear, because they act as a buffer between the floor and foot traffic. Read the label to make sure the product is designed for the type of flooring you have.
