How to Keep a Metal Bed Frame From Scratching the Floor

Metal is a common material for bed frames but it may cause scratches on a non-carpeted floor. These scratches don’t just happen when you are moving the bed across the room -- they can occur even when the frame moves only slightly, such as when you get in and out of bed. You can choose from several options for preventing this kind of damage to your wood, vinyl, laminate, linoleum or tile floor.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase self-stick felt furniture pads, furniture leg cups or find an old T-shirt or flannel shirt. Home improvement stores usually carry felt furniture pads, furniture sliders and rubber or plastic furniture leg cups.

    • 2

Remove the mattress from the bed and set it aside so that you have easy access to the feet of the bed. Carefully tilt the metal bed frame so that it is lying on its side.

    • 3

Place the felt pads, if this is what you chose to use, against the feet of the bed. Cut them to fit and then attach the adhesive side to the bottom of each foot. If you are using the leg cups or furniture sliders, most just snap on. If you are using T-shirt or flannel material, use at least three layers, cut to fit the bottom of each foot.

    • 4

Gently lower the bed frame down to its normal position. Lift up each corner of the bed frame and slide the material beneath each foot if you chose to use the T-shirt or flannel material to protect your floors.
