A Homemade House Fly Killer With Dish Soap

The best way to keep your home housefly-free is to prevent them from coming in. Keep kitchen countertops clean and free of dirty dishes and spills, keep potted plants outdoors, and clean up after pets. If you are still bothered by pesky houseflies, you can easily get rid of them with a few drops of dish soap and a bit of know-how.

      Pour about an inch of beer, cider, juice or vinegar into an empty glass bowl or jar. Add two or three drops of liquid dish soap.

      Cover the jar or bowl with plastic wrap. Use a rubber band or tape to reinforce it if necessary.

      Using a small knife, poke four or five small holes in the plastic wrap. Set the jar or bowl in the area of your home where the flies are the most problematic. Flies will be attracted to the smell of the liquid inside, will enter through the holes in the plastic wrap and will be trapped.
