DIY Stool Decoration

Sand your wooden stools with 100-grit sandpaper, and then paint them in bright colors inspired by a rainbow. This is perfect for a home with a lively color aesthetic and a broad visual palate. After painting the bar stools, coat them with spray acrylic to preserve the finish. Choose between a matte or glossy finish.

Paint the round wooden seat of a stool in a citrus color like orange, yellow or green. Then paint a white circle on the seat close to the rim, and run three lines through the middle. This creates a bar stool that looks like a cross section of a lemon, lime or orange. A citrus bar stool is ideal for a sunny kitchen.

Remove the seat from the top of the bar stool, and cover it with another fabric. Then secure the fabric, using a staple gun, before replacing the seat on the bar stool. Choose a durable fabric that will stand up to hard use. It can be either patterned or a solid color.

Cut two squares of fabric that are slightly larger than the seat of the stool, and lay them together, pattern-side in. Sew the squares together, creating a seam 1/4-inch in from the edge and leaving a 2-inch gap. Turn the fabric inside out so that the pattern side is showing. Stuff it with batting to make a cushion. Then turn in the edges of the gap and sew the gap closed. Attach two ribbons at each corner of the cushion. Use each pair of ribbons to tie the cushion to the legs of the bar stool. This works for both wooden and metal stools.
