Removing Food Odors From a Room

Fried foods, garlic and fish are a few food smells that linger behind in a room. The strong food odor can spread to other rooms in your home. Instead of holding your nose to deal with the stench, remove the food odors before they stick to surfaces in your home. Many commercial air fresheners mask the odors and release potentially harmful chemicals into the air. When you need to remove the food odors, look in your kitchen pantry for items that will neutralize the smells.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the windows in the kitchen to remove the food odors. Turn on fans in the home to help circulate the air.

    • 2

Remove the peels from two oranges. Fill a cooking pot with enough water to submerge the orange peels. Add 1 tbsp. of cinnamon. Simmer the water on the stove top, then turn off the heat source so that the sweet smell can fill the room.

    • 3

Pour 1 cup of water into a cooking pot. Add 2 tbsp. of white vinegar and bring the solution to a boil for 2 to 3 minutes.

    • 4

Place bowls filled with white or apple cider vinegar in the room with the food odors. The vinegar absorbs the food smells so that the room smells fresh again.

    • 5

Place a slice of bread into a toaster and burn it. The smell of burned toast overwhelms the food odor and absorbs it. The kitchen may have a burned-toast odor, but it will dissipate soon.

    • 6

Soak a washcloth in white vinegar. Squeeze out the excess vinegar and wave the cloth around the room to remove food odors.
