How to Get Rid of a Stained Furniture Smell

Nearly every homeowner would welcome new furniture, but few can realistically afford it. Staining wood furniture is a simple way to revamp your pieces for a new look. Stain allows you to showcase the wood grain while adding a refreshing shade of pigment. The staining process, however, can leave your home smelling like a bouquet of chemical odor. One of your strongest allies in fighting the smell of stain is good ventilation.

Instructions

    • 1

Stain the furniture outside or in your garage and allow it to stay there as it dries. This is one of the most effective things you can do to get rid of the smell. As your furniture dries, you don't want your carpets or drapes to absorb the smell of stain.

    • 2

Open the windows in rooms containing the stained furniture and keep them open as much as possible. Fresh air is one of your strongest allies in fighting the smell of stain.

    • 3

Position fans opposite the windows to push out the smell of stain.

    • 4

Place bowls of baking soda on top of each piece of furniture and in any furniture drawers during the daytime.

    • 5

Place bowls of white distilled vinegar on top of the furniture pieces at night. White distilled vinegar is better to use at night with less danger of anyone knocking over the bowls.
