How to Clean Stoneware Bakeware

Stoneware provides cooks and bakers with a durable, even heating surface that will not absorb food odors or tastes. Stoneware offers versatility by successfully moving from the freezer or refrigerator to oven without pause. Some artisans paint stoneware to create an attractive bakeware piece that goes from the oven to serving table. Stoneware has a nonporous, glazed surface that resists food stains and sticking, making care and cleaning uncomplicated.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape as much food residue off the bakeware surface as possible with a plastic spatula.

    • 2

Set the stoneware on a heat-safe surface and allow it to cool to room temperature.

    • 3

Turn the bakeware over to determine if the stoneware is dishwasher-safe. If the stoneware is dishwasher safe, place it in the dishwasher on the top rack.

    • 4

Rinse the stoneware bakeware with warm water to remove grease, oil and bits of food if the stoneware is not dishwasher-safe or you prefer to wash the piece by hand.

    • 5

Add a squirt of grease-fighting dish detergent to the surface of bakeware.

    • 6

Wet a sponge and rub the interior and exterior surfaces of the stoneware. Rinse the dish detergent off the bakeware with hot water. Dry the stoneware with a dishcloth.

    • 7

Add dish detergent to a nylon scrubbing pad if foods stick to the bakeware surface. Scrub the food stain with the scrubbing pad until you remove the stuck-on food. Rinse the stoneware with hot water and dry it with a dishcloth.

Sprinkle a layer of baking soda over burnt or stuck-on foods. Pour 1 to 2 tbsp. of white vinegar onto the baking soda. Let the vinegar and baking soda fizz. Scrub the burnt or stuck-on foods off the bakeware surface with a nylon scrubbing pad. Rinse the stoneware with hot water and dry it with a dishcloth.
