Measure the width of the door. Most doors are 36 inches across, but yours might be slightly longer or shorter. Add about 6 inches to the width of the door to determine the size of the door snake.
Cut the fabric to the appropriate size, which will probably be about 8-by-42 inches. All door snakes will require only about 8 inches worth of fabric for the width.
Fold the fabric over and sew a 1/2-inch seam along the long edge, and along one end of the tube. Any stitch style will do. Because one long end of the tube is folded over, it creates a natural barrier and does not need to be sewn. Sew the long end and one short end of the tube; when you are done, you will be left with a sock-like tube with only one short end open. Sew the seam a second time; the extra layer of thread will make the door snake stronger and will prevent it from letting in cold air.
Stuff insulating material into the open end of the tube. For every handful of insulating material, add 1/4 cup of kitty litter or sand to help weigh the door snake down.
Sew up the open end of the tube when the door snake is fully stuffed.
Sew decorative embellishments on to the door snake if you like. To create a snake, sew button eyes and a small red forked tongue to one end of the snake. To create a dachshund tube snake, sew on brown floppy ears made of cloth, button eyes and a black cloth nose.
