Removing Baked-on Grease From Enameled Cookware

Enamel-coated cookware heats evenly and can withstand high temperatures needed for searing and roasting. However, the enamel surface is easily scratched by many common methods of cleaning. Nevertheless, there are some methods of removing baked-on grease from the cookware without damaging the enameled surface.

Instructions

  1. Baking Soda Method

    • 1

Add hot water to the enameled pan. Heat the water until it simmers. This will warm and loosen the baked-on grease.

    • 2

Remove the pan form the heat, and carefully pour out the hot water. Sprinkle enough baking soda into the pan to cover the baked-on grease. Scrub the pot with the baking soda and a sponge. The baking soda will act as a fine abrasive.

    • 3

Rinse the pot, and wipe it dry. If any stubborn spots remain, reapply a coat of baking soda, and scrub again.

    Powdered Detergent Method

    • 4

Cover the bottom of the pan with water, and heat until the water simmers.

    • 5

Pour out the hot water carefully, and scrub the pan with a stiff dish brush. Rinse the pan.

    • 6

Cover the baked-on grease with a layer of powdered detergent. Cover the pan with a wet towel, and let sit several hours or overnight.

    • 7

Scrub the pan with a plastic scrub brush or dish brush. Rinse out the detergent, and inspect the pan for additional grease spots. If necessary, reapply a layer of detergent, and scrub the stubborn areas. Rinse the pan, and wipe it dry.

    Used Dryer Sheet Method

    • 8

Place a used sheet in the enameled pan, and fill with water.

    • 9

Let the pan and dryer sheet sit overnight. The antistatic agent in the dryer sheet weakens the bond between the baked-on grease and the pan.

    • 10

Use the dryer sheet or a sponge to wipe the loosened grease from inside the pan. Wash the pan as normal to remove any residue.
