Remove food remnants from the flatware using a rag or sponge as soon after use as possible.
Separate flatware from larger utensils, plates and other items.
Soak the flatware in a shallow plastic or stainless steel pan filled with water and detergent or a commercial pre-soak solution before washing.
Load your flatware in the dishwasher and run as usual or handwash in a dishpan filled with hot water mixed with a mild dish detergent.
Rinse the flatware, if not in a dishwasher, in water that is at least 180 degrees.
Dry flatware completely with a towel before placing it in storage. This will keep water and the minerals in the water from staining or tarnishing the metal.
