How to Clean Ivory Satin Shoes

Satin shoes are shiny, sleek and delicate and definitely not a type of footwear you see people wearing every day, but more often at weddings or comparable occasions. Satin is not only delicate, it's susceptible to stains, making it something you wouldn't want to wear pounding up a flight of stairs or jumping over rain puddles. However, if you have a pair of satin shoes that you'd like to wear more often, but can't as they're soiled or stained, you can restore them to their previously pristine appearance yourself.

Instructions

  1. Mild Stains

    • 1

Grip a piece of stale white bread in one hand. Hold one satin shoe in the other hand angling the more stained or soiled end of it toward the bread.

    • 2

Place the stale bread against the most soiled part of the shoe and rub it gently back and forth, following the natural weave of the shoe.

    • 3

Continue to rub in this manner until the stains and general dinginess disappear. The stale bread will lift the dirt and grime out of the shoes.

    • 4

Brush the shoes off with a soft-bristled shoe brush, following the direction of the weave of the satin.

    Heavier Stains

    • 5

Moisten a flannel cloth in wine spirits until you have saturated it well.

    • 6

Wipe the flannel across the satin shoe, directing it on to the most soiled area first. Follow the weave pattern of the satin as your guide.

    • 7

Continue to remoisten the flannel in wine spirits and wipe down the shoes until the stains have lifted completely.
