How to Care for a Leather-Topped Coffee Table

Leather-topped coffee tables display the beauty of wood along with a stretched, natural and smooth leather surface. Both leather and wood are sensitive to many of the same cleaning solutions. Thus, properly caring for the leather provides the same level of care for the wood components as well. Choose gentle and nonabrasive cleaning products and tools to ensure the leather-topped coffee table lasts a long time.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the leather coffee table out of direct sunlight or away from a heating source. Sunlight and heat can bleach and dry out leather, which can cause it to crack and split.

    • 2

Place coasters under drinks, vases or anything that contains liquid. Condensation and heat will damage leather as well as wood.

    • 3

Dust the leather and wood every day with a dry microfiber cloth. Don’t use dusting spray or water, as both are unnecessary to remove dust. Do this every day to prevent dirt or dust from building up and being tough to remove.

    • 4

Soak a microfiber cloth in water and wring it out as much as possible. Rub the cloth over the leather and wood if you notice stains or visible dirt that dry dusting did not remove. Immediately dry the area with a clean microfiber cloth.

    • 5

Mix two drops mild liquid dish soap with 1 cup warm water in a bowl if stains are still visible. Dampen a microfiber cloth with the solution and rub it over the dirty areas until they are completely clean. Rinse with a clean damp cloth. Immediately dry the leather-topped coffee table with a clean microfiber cloth.
