How to Maintain a Stainless Pan

While stainless steel is a poor conductor of heat, it is a durable material requiring minimal maintenance. Stainless-steel cooking pans typically have aluminum or copper bottoms that conduct the heat for cooking. The stainless-steel surface is nonporous, durable and doesn’t corrode. If you have a stainless-steel pan without an aluminum or copper bottom, you increase the chances of burning your food while cooking due to the hot spots that occur because of stainless steel’s inability to conduct heat effectively.

Instructions

Wash the pan in warm water and liquid dish soap before using the first time.

    • 2

Preheat the pan before adding food.

    • 3

Remove the contents of the pan after frying food.

    • 4

Fill the pan with hot water and set on the stove. Don’t place it on a hot burner.

Wash the pan after it has cooled, using hot water, liquid dish soap and a nonabrasive kitchen sponge or dishcloth. If necessary, use a nonabrasive cleanser to remove stubborn stains.

    • 7

Dry the pan with a clean dish towel.

    • 8

Polish with a stainless-steel polish, if desired, to make the pan shine.
