How to Make Glassware Sparkle

Maximize the aesthetic appearance of your table-setting by making your glassware sparkle. If you have hard water and the glassware is cloudy or has hard water spots, begin by removing the unsightly film. Hard water has a high concentration of minerals, such as calcium and magnesium. After a surface dries, the hard water leaves behind these minerals. Clouding can also occur if your dishwasher isn’t working properly, resulting in soap residue left on glassware after washing.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the kitchen sink with hot water and add 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar.

    • 2

Place clean glassware in the vinegar water. Don’t allow the various pieces to tap each other or the sides of the sink, as this might chip the glassware.

    • 3

Soak the glassware in the vinegar water. It may take just a few minutes for the vinegar water to lift the stains. For stubborn stains, allow the glassware to sit for about 30 minutes in the rinse.

    • 4

Remove and dry the glasses, using a lint-free dishcloth. Thoroughly dry the glasses.

    • 5

Hold a silk cloth in your hand and then cup the bowl of a glass in the cloth covered hand. You can use old, clean silk handkerchiefs.

    • 6

Polish the entire exterior of the glass using the second silk cloth or silk handkerchief, never allowing your fingers to touch the glass. Repeat with the remaining glasses.
