You can add stamped designs with glass paint to the outside of a glass cookie jar. Dip a rubber stamp into the paint, and press it against the sides of the cookie jar. Use stamps to match the décor theme of your kitchen. For instance, if you have a fruit-themed kitchen, use a strawberry-shaped stamp dipped in red paint. For a finishing touch, tie a ribbon around the neck of the jar in a matching color.
Create a cookie jar that you can easily change depending on your mood. Paint the exterior of an unglazed ceramic jar with chalkboard paint. This turns the cookie jar exterior into a surface you can write on with chalk. Write the type of cookies inside the jar, and erase it with a dry cloth when you change the cookies inside. If you are giving the jar as a gift, include a box of chalk inside the jar for the recipient.
During the holidays, when gingerbread men are baked and given away, present the recipient with a cookie jar filled with the spicy cookies. Decorate the exterior of an opaque cookie jar with painted gingerbread men and Christmas trees to give a hint about the contents. For star-shaped cookies, paint the jar with stars in the same color as the icing on the cookies. Use stencils and glass paints to create the shapes if you are not adept at freehand drawing. Cover the lid of the cookie jar with a scrap of red and green fabric, and wrap a ribbon around the base of the lid to hold the fabric in place.
Add a country look to a simple, unadorned cookie jar with a vine wreath. Select a wreath wide enough to fit around the middle or the base of the jar. Set the jar on top of the middle of the wreath for a place mat if you have a jar that has the same width from top to bottom. If you have a tapered jar that is wider at the bottom than at the top, hang the wreath around the middle of the jar so that the wreath remains in the middle of the jar without slipping to the bottom. Insert dried or silk flowers into the wreath for added color.
