How to Change a Light Bulb In Recessed Shower Lighting

Getting a recessed light bulb out of your shower often means trying to finesse your fingers into tight corners, or staring at the bulb wondering how you're ever going to get it out. With one handy household staple, you can get the light out in a jiffy. Bathrooms often have high humidity, so change the light well after a shower and replace it with the same type of bulb.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the light in the shower. Wait until the light bulb has cooled down to the touch. if you recently showered, wait until the steam evaporates from the bathroom so there is no water in the air.

    • 2

Cut a 12-inch strip of duct tape. Place the center of the strip directly onto your recessed bulb and leave the ends straight out.

    • 3

Fold the ends back over to form a handle in the center. Touch the sticky ends together to form a nonsticky handle you can use to manipulate the bulb.

    • 4

Twist the duct tape handle counterclockwise to remove the bulb from its socket.

    • 5

Screw a new bulb into the socket, using your fingers to position the bulb in place and to turn it. As you screw, move your fingers to the top or outside face of the bulb, so you can position it in place.
