How to Clean a NuTone Bathroom Vent Filter

The NuTone company is a United States based manufacturer of home ventilation products including bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans. NuTone's bathroom ventilation fans were the 2009 Home Builder Executive Innovation Award winner. NuTone brand bathroom vent filters feature push-in-place exterior grilles that allow easy removal for cleaning. Periodically wiping down and vacuuming the bathroom vent filter unit prevents excess dust buildup, which can decrease performance. A vacuum brush attachment can be used to clean inside the vent filter unit.

     Disconnect power to the room the fan is in by turning off the circuit breaker in the main service panel for the home.

     Slide the end of a flat head screwdriver between the grille cover and the ceiling and use a prying motion to loosen the grill from the ceiling. Grip the edges of the grill and pull it downwards to remove.

     Wipe the surface of the grille with a damp cloth to remove dust. Fit a vacuum hose with a brush attachment and vacuum the interior of the vent filter to remove dust or dirt build up.

     Push the grille back up against the ceiling and turn power back on to the bathroom.
