Removing Two-sided Carpet Tape

Double-sided tape is applied by laying down the tape and then pulling away the backing, revealing a second layer of adhesive. It is frequently used to stick carpet to the floor, and it is frequently considered a permanent solution. However, if you have misapplied the tape or you want to pull up the carpet, you need to do so in a way that will not leave a sticky residue on the floor

Instructions

    • 1

Pull up the carpeting to reveal the tape. While it will take some effort, once the carpet comes away from the floor, the tape gives way easily. There may be tape residue on both the carpet and the floor or only on one or the other.

    • 2

Scrape as much of the tape off the carpet backing and the floor as possible using a plastic scraper or a butter knife.

    • 3

Rub vegetable oil into the tape residue using your fingers.

    • 4

Allow the vegetable oil to penetrate the tape for about one hour.

    • 5

Scrub the tape off using a heavy paper towel.
