How to Make a Meal Chart

Creating a weekly or monthly meal plan for your family is an excellent way to stay organized, eliminate mealtime stress and save money on your grocery bill. There are many ways to organize a meal plan but one of the easiest is to utilize Google Calendar -- a free online resource that allows you to create entries for every day of the week. Once complete you can sync your meal plan calendar with your smartphone for easy access and receive daily email alerts with the day's dinner menu and recipe.

      Go to Google.com and click on the "More" menu at the top of the page. Select "Calendar" from the drop-down menu to create or view your Google calendar. At this point you'll be prompted to log in to your account or create a free account.

      Create a new calendar by clicking on "My Calendars" in the left column of the page. If you're new to Google calendars you'll already have a blank calendar on the screen to use. To make it easy to identify name the calendar "Meal Plan" or something similar.

      Determine what you want to make for meals for the next week, two weeks or month. There is no right or wrong way to create a meal plan so feel free to make it for as many (or as few) weeks as you'd like. If you go out to dinner frequently build those days into your calendar as well. Creating a meal plan for dinners is most common, though you can include breakfast and lunch meals.

      Click on a date and select "Edit Event" from the window. Here you can enter all of the details about your meal including the recipe name, a link to the online recipe, a list of ingredients or the full recipe details. You can also set up an email alert so that you'll receive a notification with the day's menu plan.

      Press "Save" to save the event to your meal plan. Continue adding more meals in this fashion until the meal plan is complete. If you want your spouse or another family member to have access to the calendar you can share privileges with them. If you have a smartphone you may also be able to sync your meal plan calendar with your phone.
