Choose your scent. From citrus fruits to fresh flowers and herbs, there are a myriad of fragrances to choose from.
Peel your fruits and place the peels into a clear glass jar with a lid. If you're using fresh flowers or herbs, simply place them into the jar as is. You may mix scents if desired by placing more than one scent into the jar.
Pour one cup of natural oil, such as safflower or olive oil, into the jar with the main ingredient. Seal the jar with a lid and place it on a windowsill that receives plenty of sunlight. Allow the jar to sit for 48 hours, shaking twice a day.
Remove the jar after 48 hours. Strain the liquid with a cheesecloth and toss out the peels, flowers and/or herbs. Pour the oil back into the jar. Add fresh ingredients to the jar and place it back into the window sill for 48 more hours. Again, shake twice a day.
Continue removing the jar after 48 hours and replacing it with fresh ingredients until the desired smell has been achieved. After the product is finished, place into a separate container and store at room temperature.
Use the oils as a floor polisher by dropping a few drops onto the floor and buffering with a mop. You could also pour the oil into a jar and use as a reed diffuser. Finally, the oils could be burned on a tea-candle oil burner to add fragrance to your home.
