Instead of having a flat, firm surface, a sunken mattress has a noticeable sag, with a divot in the center or off to one side. This sunken quality is a sign that the mattress needs to be replaced, but if you do not have the money or the time to do so, make a quick fix. While you will still need to replace the mattress eventually, the fix helps you get more comfortable sleep until you do so.

1
Remove your mattress, leaving the box spring on the frame.
-
2
Measure the length and the width of the box spring, subtracting 1 inch from both measurements.
-
-
3
Cut a piece of plywood that is the same size as the mattress using a saw.
-
4
Place the plywood on top of the box spring.
-
5
Place the mattress on top of the plywood. This increases the amount of support for the mattress, evening out the sunkeness.
