How to Keep a Scatter Rug From Slipping on Top of Carpet

Scatter rugs are often small and light, which makes it easy for them to slide off the floor. This can be dangerous if your floors are quite slippery, as the flooring and slippery rug can cause you to lose balance and fall. Prevent this by using a no-slip rug pad or rug grippers that will hold the rug to the hard floor underneath. Regardless, discourage people from running in the house and over scatter rugs as grips can become dislodged and slide. Use double-sided adhesive rug grips that wont damage carpeting.

Instructions

  1. Using Grip Pads

    • 1

Cut a grip rug pad so that it is 3 inches shorter and 3 inches narrower than your scatter rug. This will ensure that the rug pad doesn’t show. Use a sharp pair of scissors.

    • 2

Lay the pad over the area of the floor where you would like to place the rug. Smooth out the pad and press it into the hard floor so that it adheres to the floor and doesn’t slip.

    • 3

Lay the rug over the pad. Smooth out the rug.

    Using Adhesive

    • 4

Lay the rug on your floor so that the backside is showing.

    • 5

Remove the backing off one side of the double-sided adhesive.

    • 6

Place adhesive rug grips on the edges of the rug and several in the center. Place them several inches apart.

    • 7

Remove the other side of the tape backing.

    • 8

Flip the rug around and press it into the floor. Ensure that you place the rug in the right place, as it is hard to adjust the rug once it has been placed on the floor.
