How to Hang a Wreath on a Door Without Scratching It?

There was a time when wreaths were only hung on the door during the Christmas holiday season. Now there are wreaths for every holiday and for the seasons in between. Decorate your door with a homemade or store-bought wreath hanger that keeps the wreath in place without additional hardware. Many craft stores carry the hangers, but you can save money when you make one from materials you have at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the door from the top of the door to the height of the wreath placement. You may also use the measurement from the top of the door jamb to the desired height.

    • 2

Choose a 1-inch or wider ribbon that coordinates with the colors of the wreath. For consistency, choose a ribbon that is the same color as the bow on the wreath. Cut the ribbon 6 inches longer than the measurement you took of the door.

    • 3

Attach the ribbon to the wreath. You can either tie the ribbon to the top of the wreath or wire the ribbon to the wreath with floral wire. To use the wire, cut a 3-inch section of wire and bend the piece in half. Poke the ends of the wire through the ribbon as though it were a staple. Secure the ends of the wire to the wreath.

Open the door and climb the step ladder, carrying the wreath, a hammer and a nail. Place the free end of the ribbon in the middle of the top edge of the door, and drive the flat-head nail through the ribbon. Continue driving the nail into the top of the door until the flat head is flush with the door.

Remove the wreath by cutting the ribbon and pulling the nail. The nail hole is not visible, however you can fill the hole with wood putty if you desire.
