Your ice maker will make normal noises while it operates normally. These noises include ice dropping into the ice bucket, fans in the freezer rotating and the freezer’s air compressor. You may also hear the Sub Zero filling the ice maker with water. These noises are more noticeable when the freezer door is open. Ignore these noises.
Sub Zero freezers are fitted with an auger arm that lowers into the ice bucket to determine when the machine needs to add more ice to the bucket. The auger will make a sound when it lowers into the ice bucket. This generally occurs only after you re-install the ice bucket, but it can occur in the middle of a cycle. This is another normal sound.
Even if you ensure that the water supply is properly hooked up and that the ice maker is able to produce ice, your machine may still make noises. You can limit the noises by placing cabinets above and around the machine to pad the noises and ensure they don’t echo off high ceilings. Place a floor mat in front of the machine so that noises won't travel on the floor either.
If you don’t connect the water supply to the freezer and refrigerator, the ice maker will not be able to draw water from your home to supply the ice trays, which can cause a buzzing or sucking noise. Remedy this situation by checking to ensure your home’s water supply is turned on -- and ensure that the connection is sound.
Sub Zero recommends against storing anything in your ice bucket or around the ice maker. If you do, it could jam the arm and eventually break it. If you’re storing items in the bucket or if an item has fallen in there, you may begin to hear an unusual buzzing noise. Quickly remove the object to eliminate the sound.
If the ice maker in your freezer hasn't been installed properly, it can begin to make a whooshing noise. This noise occurs most often if you’ve removed the ice bucket or another component of the ice maker and haven't put it back into the freezer properly. The sounds will go away once you reinstall the part.
