How to Make Hammock Straps

Whether you are going camping in the mountains or you would simply like a place to relax in your yard, a hammock provides a place for a summer snooze. If you want to enjoy your hammock without worrying about putting spikes into your trees, make your own hammock strips that allow you to mount your hammock securely to trees without any slippage.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 3-foot lengths of 1-inch polyester webbing using a pair of scissors, creating your straps.

    • 2

Fold down one end of one of the straps by 3 inches.

    • 3

Sew down the end using a sewing machine, creating a loop. Sew over your stitches several times to ensure they hold.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the other ends of the straps.

    • 5

Hook one carabiner to each loop, using two carabiners for each strap. One carabiner hooks one end of the strap to the hammock. The other end of the strap travels around the tree, and the carabiner is used to hook the strap's end to the strap itself, where it is stretched between the tree and the hammock.
