How to Hang Hooks on a Metal Door

Metal doors are sleek, with an elegant appearance, but sometimes they can be irritating if you want to give them some extra functionality. You cannot hammer a hook or a nail into a metal door. Instead, if you want to decorate a metal door, you will need to look to other methods. Use a method that suits your decorating scheme while providing you with the functionality that you are interested in. A metal door does not have to be a completely smooth surface in an otherwise tastefully ornamented home.

Instructions

    • 1

Hook the U-shaped bracket of an over-the-door hook over the top of the metal door. The bracket holds one or two hooks to the door, hanging down to one side or the other. This type of hook works best with metal doors that are of a standard thickness. Use this type of hook when you need to hang up clothing, purses or other items that have some heft to them.

Push suction cup hooks onto the surface of the door wherever you need them. Suction cups only require a completely flat surface to stick, and they can be used to hold clothing or decorations on the door. If you are going to be hanging heavy items, use industrial-strength suction hooks that have weight guarantees on the packaging.

Apply the included adhesive to the back of a plastic adhesive hook and stick it to the metal door wherever you like. Adhesive hooks are ideal when you only want to hang light objects, though they also come rated by weights if you choose industrial hooks. Like suction-cup hooks, they can be placed wherever you like on your metal door.
